Samsung Foundry securing the deal to make the SoC for Nintendo's new Switch 2 is a turning point, AMD and Sony now switch move from TSMC to Samsung.

In a bid to increase production of the Nintendo Switch 2, Nintendo has partnered with Samsung Electronics Co. to help manufacture main chips for the console.

The Nintendo Switch 2 isn't even out yet, and a rumor suggests Nintendo will make a Switch 2 OLED version with Samsung supplying panels.

According to Bloomberg, Samsung has already started pushing to use its OLED panels in a future version of the Switch 2. While that doesn't mean an OLED Switch 2 is confirmed just yet, the fact that one of Nintendo's key hardware partners is pushing for an OLED model could be good news.

Elsewhere in Bloomberg's report, Samsung sources stated they believed the company had the capacity for Nintendo to ship 20 million Switch 2 consoles this year — considerably more than the 15 million estimate that Nintendo has told investors it expects to shift before March 31, 2026.

Samsung scored a major win for its foundry business by landing a contract to build custom processors for Nintendo’s upcoming Switch 2 gaming console. That’s according to a report from Bloomberg, which noted that processor job is a leg up for Samsung as it competes with TSMC in the chip foundry arena.
