To commemorate the 50th anniversary, the Martha’s Vineyard Museum created an exhibit entitled “Jaws at 50 – A Deeper Dive.” “Our goal from the beginning was to make sure that it was told in a way that showed people that without the island and the people of the island, Jaws wouldn’t certainly be what it is,” said museum curator Anna Barber.

Completed despite production problems, equipment malfunctions and budget adjustments, the movie proved an enduring, thrilling work of popular filmmaking that virtually invented the summer blockbuster as we know it.

Spencer Cain was born a “Jaws” fan — literally. His parents, Nicky and Jimmy Cain of Covington, chose to air a Blu-ray 25th anniversary director’s cut of the movie in Nicky’s birthing suite at Ochsner Medical Center in 2001. The show even attracted hospital staffers unconnected to the blessed event.
