With seven gold medals and an incredible nine world records, Gretchen Walsh pulled off an unprecedented achievement in Budapest.

American swimmer Gretchen Walsh has set three more world records in one day at the world short course championships in Budapest.

BUDAPEST, Hungary – Virginia senior Gretchen Walsh set two world records and won her fourth individual title on Saturday (Dec. 14) on the fifth day of the six-day 2024 World Aquatics 25m Championships at the Duna Arena in Budapest, Hungary.

American swimmer Gretchen Walsh set her 10th world record at the world short course championships with gold in the 50-meter freestyle final before adding an 11th as part of the winning U.S. team in the women’s 4x100 medley relay.

Gretchen Walsh finished the six-day world short course championships with 11 world records (nine individual) — believed to be the most by one swimmer at one meet — and seven gold medals. Walsh, 21, capped things off Sunday with victories in the 50m freestyle and as part of the U.S. women’s 4x100m medley relay.

McIntosh set her third world record to claim a third gold medal at the world short course swim championships on Saturday in Budapest, Hungary. The 18-year-old Canadian smashed the previous world-record time in the women's 400-metre individual medley by more than three seconds.

Virginia Cavaliers swimmer Gretchen Walsh continues to take the aquatics world by storm. After winning two gold medals and two silvers in the 2024 Paris Olympics, Walsh pieced together one of the best meets in swimming history this week.
