The White House plans to clarify what its official called misinformation about import tariffs for gold bars amid uncertainty, which saw some industry players pausing deliveries of bullion to the United States.

The global gold market has been thrown into fresh turmoil after a US government agency indicated that bullion would not be exempt from tariffs.

The news sent commodity investors scrambling, with December gold prices rising to a record $3,534.10 per ounce, per the Financial Times. On the revelation, a White House official told Bloomberg that they planned to clarify that imports of gold bars will not face tariffs.
