Former Australian skipper Ricky Ponting will take over as the head coach of Punjab Kings in IPL 2025 after leaving Delhi Capitals due to availability concerns. His initial duties include identifying players for retention and appointing a new captain following Shikhar Dhawan's retirement.

Ricky Ponting ended his seven year association with Delhi Capitals as he has been appointed the head coach of Punjab Kings. Punjab finished ninth last season and Ponting is their third coach in the last four seasons.

Ponting’s IPL journey began as a player with Kolkata Knight Riders in the inaugural 2008 season. He later joined the Mumbai Indians, where he relinquished the captaincy mid-season in 2013, allowing Rohit Sharma to take over and lead the team to their first title that year.
