The National Weather Service has issued a red flag warning beginning Thursday morning for Santa Barbara, Ventura, and Los Angeles counties as high heat and monsoonal moisture bring an increased risk of fire starts and extreme wildfire behavior. The warning will be in place until Saturday and may be extended.

The most intense heat of the summer arrives this week when parts of Los Angeles will be under extreme heat warnings and other areas will face severe fire conditions. What authorities described as a severe heat event with days of temperatures in the upper 90s and well into the 100s will begin Wednesday and continue through the weekend.

Severe weather alerts have been issued for most of Southern California in anticipation of the extreme heat and critical fire danger to hit the region on Wednesday.
