U.S. officials will screen immigrants' social media accounts for antisemitic content as "grounds for denying" immigration benefit requests, the Trump administration announced in a policy that immediately went into effect Wednesday.

U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services, which is a part of DHS, will monitor social media content that it says is “endorsing, espousing, promoting, or supporting antisemitic terrorism, antisemitic terrorist organizations, or other antisemitic activity,” according to the statement.

The Department of Homeland Security said Wednesday it would begin screening the social media accounts of migrants applying for permanent resident status, as well as foreign students and aliens affiliated with academic institutions,
