We are staying in downtown Indianapolis for the Indy 500, 2019. Is there a shuttle service that picks up downtown? I found one service but pickup was at the airport and another about 4 hours away. Has anyone used Uber? I know this is a crazy day. Our first Indy, any advice is appreciated. We don not want to drive.

Not sure if I completely understand your question. If you are talking about a track tour you can go to the Museum any day of the week and book a behind the seens tour easily for the next tour usually given every hour. I believe the tour is $10 and passes for the Museum is also $10. If your talking about going to the Indy 500 you want to purchase tickets as far in advance as possible. Right now would be a good time to book for 2019. My opinion sitting in the turns is better than sitting in the straights. Hotels are very hard to get during the Indy 500 weekend. The event draws 400,000 people to the area. So I would also book that immediately as well and verify that they are guaranteeing you a room. If they give your room away you will not be able to find another race weekend. There are also many camping opportunities for RV’s as well as Air B&B but same thing, book well in advance. You should easily be able to book this kind of event with out assistance of an organizer. IMS . Com for Race tickets and search Indianapolis and surrounding areas for hotels. You will likely not be able to find hotels close to the track. Downtown and the North side of town are great areas to stay.

The traffic is bad on indy weekend. What 2 hours after the race before you even think about leaving. Then it will be ok. I save get there the night before or very early on race day. I have done this for years and it has worked for me. I live in the Cincinnati area.

That would certainly depend on how far out you are staying. I would research the many provided shuttles from remote parking sites to the track. And would suggest Uber or LYft to one of those locations day of the race. You will also find several express shuttles provided by the city as well. I would personally avoid the cabs. Too much money, Too long of a wait and very likely will drop you off a good ways from the track as to avoid the traffic.
