Lakeland is a city in Shelby County, Tennessee, United States, and a part of the Memphis metropolitan area. The population was 12,430 at the 2010 census. Located in Shelby County, Tennessee, Lakeland is a thriving suburb of Memphis with a rich history and a strong sense of community. The city was officially incorporated in 1977, but its roots trace back to the early 1960s with the development of the Lakeland Amusement Park. This park, featuring attractions like the Huff 'n' Puff Railroad and a miniature railway by the Allan Herschell Company, was built around what is now known as Garner Lake. Although the amusement park has since closed, it played a significant role in shaping the city's identity and growth.
