Ongole is a city in Prakasam district of the Indian state of Andhra Pradesh. It is the headquarters of Prakasam district. It is known for Ongole cattle, an indigenous breed of oxen. Ongole's name derives from the Sanskrit word 'Ongole', meaning the 'town of Shiva'.
