The review was written by my Grandaughter so please excuse the spelling and syntax. We did look at the website and as we went on a Wednesday we expected the Castle areas open to the public to be accessible, but all the doors were locked and there was no one available. I read that what we see standing was rebuilt by the Victorians. Is this an accurate rebuild of a medieval castle..?

Hello. The castle was open as advertised on Wednesday 4th and 11th April from 10am to 2pm and the King John Exhibition open in the North West Tower so I can only think you may of come outside the advertised opening hours. After the castle was slighted in the 17th century after the Civil war of 1642 to 1646, 30% of the original Castle remains. It wasn't rebuilt by the Victorians but they did some additions to secure areas of castle that were in decay. I hope this helps.
